Manchester United’s January transfer window signing Alexis Sanchez will play for United when they clash with Sevilla in the round of 16 of the Champions League next month.
There have been doubt by some fans about the player’s registration for the UEFA Champions League, since he has been ruled out of the premier league for the rest of the season.
But extract from the rules of Europe’s governing football body clearly shows that the Chilean would be eligible to play for United when they meet Sevilla in February next month.
UEFA Champions League regulations state that clubs can register one player for the knockout rounds who “has been fielded in a UEFA club competition group stage match for another club in the current season” as long as said player has not played “in the same competition for another club,” or for “another club that is currently in the same competition.”
Arsenal missed out playing in the champions league this season, but played in the Europa League competition where Sanchez had featured, and this makes him eligible to play in the uefa champions league.
Sanchez who was recently signed would have been ineligible to play in the champions league if Arsenal had participated in the tournament.
