The much talked-about novelty football match between IMSU Alumni and the UNN Alumni has come and gone, with the visiting side getting a thriller 2-2 draw at the UNEC stadium in Enugu, South-East Nigeria.
IMSU Alumni were determined to win and got all the necessary motivation as “visiting-host”, getting a jersey boost package from Nigeria’s no 1 astro-turf company VP Grasse to enable them prosecute the match.
Unfortunately, it was the host team that took the lead in all situation, opening scoring within the first 7 minutes of play and showed more determination to score, but IMSU Alumni forward ‘Shadows’ attempted to equalize immediately when he dribbled into the 18-yard-box but and brought down leading to the referee pointing to the spot kick.
IMSU school team former captain Tochi Ekeocha took the kick and converted the penalty into a goal, leveling up with the home side and fans cheered the visiting side.
Though IMSU Alumni were determined to take the lead, but UNN Alumni controlled the midfield and went deep into the IMSU Alumni defense, looking for a second goal.
Their efforts paid off in the second half when an attack from the right-flank saw IMSU Alumni goal-keeper put up a rebound and Chima from UNN Alumni poked in the second goal of the match, thereby putting the visiting side under much pressure.
IMSU Alumni showed determination for a second time to come back, as they attacked from the right-flank to redeem their image and their effort paid off, when Nnamdi Amadikwa A.K.A Opara Mbaise’s close-range shot sealed up a thriller draw for IMSU Alumni before the centre referee blew the final whistle ending the game in 2-2 draw.
