Joseph Parker is speaking like the bare bones of a deal for a sizzling unification showdown with Anthony Joshua in 2018 have been agreed.
The WBO heavyweight champion has been persistently taunting AJ for the past two months, as the Londoner weighed up his options for a next bout.
It appears now the Kiwi has his wish, insisting that the duo are poised to sign contracts this side of New Year’s Eve.
“The fight with Joshua is very close. We’ve had a bit of a pause as we find middle ground where both teams are happy,” the 25-year-old told T2T Boxing .
“But I think we’ve come to a conclusion – we’re just going to tidy things up, lock it in and get the fight going.
“We want to lock something in before Christmas, so we can all have a holiday and enjoy it and then hit camp.”
Parker, who is undefeated in 24 professional fights (18 by knockout), tweeted earlier in December: “65% & rematch not enough to unify? Believe your own hype? Bubble’s gonna burst bro,” as differences in fees appeared to hamper progress.
AJ, holding a trio of IBF, IBO and WBA belts, was evidently bristled by Parker’s bizarre press conference last month, where the Kiwi offered cash for video footage of the Watford brawler being floored in action.
It seems now that Parker’s persistence has paid off. But how does he plan to topple the might of Joshua?
“He’s a big guy with a lot of power who comes forward and chases you down,” added the 25-year-old.
“But if I give him angles and movement it will give him a bit of trouble so that’s what I’m looking to do.”
