Arsenal Wenger men have started a new life at the Europa League thrashing Italian giant AC Milan 2-0 with goals from Mkhitaryan and Ramsey ensuring they have away goals advantage ahead of the second-leg.
Arsenal arrived San Siro after four heavy defeats back in England. In one of those matches, they lost the Carabao Cup final to Manchester City, and went further to lose six points in their premier league quest to finish top four to City and Brighton and another memorable but insignificant home loss to Ostersunds in the Europa League .
But the team have decided to put all of these behind as they controlled and dictated the pace of play at San Siro stadium, subjecting an AC Milan side that have gone unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions to ridicule before their home crowd.
Wenger had before the game spoke about his team’s desire to showing fight without compromising their attacking principles and they indeed delivered in a dominant first-half performance.
AC Milan were practically weak in front of goal, they failed to convert chances into goals and ended up paying dearly for those costly chances they missed.
With the victory, Arsenal’s hope of getting a Champions League slot by winning the Europa League is rekindled, but they will have to ensure they either emerge victorious in the second leg or get an outright draw to enable them move ahead.
On the other hand AC Milan who are currently seventh on the Serie A table with no hope of qualifying for the Champions League next season will probably put up a good fight in London to also keep their hopes alive.
