Atletico Ensures Wenger End Last Season Career With Arsenal Trophy-less

Atletico Madrid beat Arsenal 1-0 in Spain to reach their third Europa League Cup final in eight years with a 2-1 aggregate scoreline which ensures Wenger end his career without a silverware.

Wenger had earlier announced his departure from the club at the end of the season and was probably hoping to make his side retain England’s second chance of having five slots at the champions league next season.

That hope of guiding his side to Europa silverware and qualification to the champions league was killed when Diego Costa struck in the injury time of the first half to score the only goal of the match.

The loss also means that for the second consecutive time in a row Arsenal will not be at the champions league, giving the incoming coach an opportunity to start a rebuilding process with the domestic league.

Arsenal actually lost their opportunity of reaching the final in the first-leg, when 10-man Atletico forced Arsenal to a 1-1 draw at the Emirate Stadium, putting them in a tight situation against a well defensive Atletico.

Obviously, Wenger’s decision to depart at the end of the season would be seen by many as a very welcomed development following the exit of Arsenal from the champions league as Gunners will now have to begin her post-Wenger’s history next season.
