Australian Table Tennis female player Melissa Tapper has expressed fear on a female Nigerian player which she is yet to see play but would also be competing at the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. Her notable quotes read:
On her competition:
“My Rio (2016 Olympic Games) teammate Andrea McDONNELL (AUS) will be a tough competitor. There’s a girl from Nigeria who we haven’t seen play before, and she’s had some great international results – it’s difficult when you haven’t been able to see some of the players play so we’ll have to be mindful of that.”
“I can’t wait to see what the atmosphere is going to be like, especially in the table tennis halls. It’s a really great set-up and hopefully the crowd will really get into it and behind us.”
On competing against able-bodied athletes (in the women’s team, singles, doubles and mixed doubles events) and Para athletes (TT6-10 singles):
“It’s great that the Gold Coast (Games) is leading the way with inclusivity. I have been quite lucky to spend time with able-bods and Paras (athletes), but now to be able to hang out with them together in one event, it’s so good.”
On her expectations for the Games:
“I’m here ready to fight for every ball and show some good Aussie fighting spirit, and the rest will take care of itself. Hopefully I get up on the podium and that will be an absolute dream.
