Barcelona players took time after their last league match to pay tribute to Andres Iniesta who will be leaving at the end of the season.
The fans had earlier built a mosaic message in Spanish Language reading”Infinit Iniesta” before kick-off, which means ‘Forever Iniesta’.
The 1-0 win against Real Sociedad was Iniesta’s last game for Barcelona and it was his 674th Barcelona game marking the end of a club legend who won 22 major titles with Barca in his 16 years with the senior side.
The Spaniard tried to end his last match with Barca with a goal before he was substituted in the 82nd minutes and he handed over the arm band to Lionel Messi, who gave him a hug.
He embraced all of his team mates before acknowledging cheers from the crowd with tears in his eyes.
After full-time the stadium went dark before a light show during which Barcelona players emerged wearing Iniesta shirts to form a guard of honour.
Iniesta then walked out to raise first the La Liga title then the Copa del Rey trophies, the fourth time he has won both in the same season, before addressing the crowd.
“This is a difficult day but I have spent 22 marvellous years here,” he said. “It’s been a pride and a pleasure to defend and represent this badge, which for me is the best in the world.
“Thanks to all my team-mates, each and every one. I will miss you all so much. And thank you to the fans, for all your love, everything you’ve made me feel since I arrived here as a boy. I leave as a man. I will keep you in my heart forever.”
