Brazil Sends D’Tigers Packing From Rio Olympics

All hopes of Nigeria national men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, progressing to the quarter finals of the men’s basketball event at the Rio Olympics have been lost, following their 86-69 loss to Brazil on Monday.

D’Tigers needed to win the host to give them a chance of making it to the quarter finals, but having done enough to win the first quarter 16-15, the African champions were defeated by the Brazilians in the remaining three quarters to the delight of their home fans present at the Carioca Arena 1.

D’Tigers shocked everyone by the loss, because after beating Croatia and their narrow defeats against Spain and Lithuania, many thought Nigeria had a good chance against the hosts who had only won a game also before their clash in the Monday’s game.

However, that was not to be as the D’Tigers missed out on being the first African team to win two games at the Olympics.

Akognon Josh was the top performer for D’Tigers with 16 points while Uzoh Ben also did well with 15 points.
