With less than a few months to the Rio 2016 Olympics, one of the worries faced with the Rio games is if President Dilma Rousseff will be seated as President when Brazil will be hosting the world. The Brazil lower house has approved an impeachment motion against President Rousseff in an unprecedented vote where more than two-thirds of the lawmakers voted to remove her.
Rousseff was accused of hiding budgetary deficits ahead of her 2014 re-election. The impeachment notice has now gone to the senate, and if it is approved Rousseff would step down for 180 days to defend herself against the accusations. Hence, Brazil may host the global sporting event without her seated as President.
The role of the President during the Olympics is to preside over at the opening ceremony, much of other responsibilities will be done by the Mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, who happens to be the head of the local organizing committee.
The vice-president of Brazil Michel Temer is to replace the president if the impeachment process goes through.
