Celta Vigo End Madrid’s Hope of Winning A Trebble Under Zidane

For the second consecutive time under Zinedine Zidane, Real Madrid’s hope of winning a treble ended after Celta vigo knocked the European champions out of Copa del Rey at Balaidos.

An earlier first-leg 2-1 defeat by Celta Vigo at Santiago Bernebeu gave the home team a 4-3 aggregate advantage to progress to the next round.

Danilo’s own goal before the break was the biggest shock Zinedine Zidane’s men had to suffer in the first half, putting Madrid under stiff pressure of overturning a 3-1 deficit.

Cristiano Ronaldo showed his class through the wonderful free kick he took to give hope to Zidane’s men, but it was not enough to see them through to the next stage.

Madrid were eliminated last season from the Copa del Rey after they fielded an ineligible player in the first -leg, but now its a different story entirely.
