Can Chelsea retain the premier league after two straight losses? The above could just be one question that would go through the minds of some Chelsea fans after they suffered a second painful defeat in the hands of Crystal Palace on Saturday.
It is even more interesting to know that while Chelsea lost to league leaders Manchester City before the international break, they suffered another loss in the hands of bottom-placed team Crystal Palace.
Immediately after the loss to City, Chelsea player Fabregas excused the team by saying that City had more time to rest after their European tour and at such got the necessary strength needed and outplayed them, but what could also have been the case in this 2-1 humiliating loss to Crystal Palace?
Could it also be that the international break had affected Chelsea players? Making them lose the focus which earned them the title last season.
While Manchester City who outclassed the defending champions in a 1-0 win were busy harvesting goals against Stoke City, it was a different ball-game for Chelsea who found it difficult to cope with the attack of a supposed Crystal Palace.
Crystal Palace had gone goalless in their last 630 minutes official playtime, it becomes very interesting that they opened scoring against a Chelsea side that has suddenly become a bad team overnight.
It was also reported by Mirror Sport that Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has declared Chelsea’s season is an “emergency”.
This may sound difficult to believe that Chelsea are in this current state, but their recent performance clearly shows that they are in to face a really difficult time as defending champions.
