Chelsea have kept their title race alive in week three of the premier league following an away 2-1 victory against Newcastle which makes them maintain maximum nine points from three games.
An own-goal which came late from Yedlin in the 87th minutes was Chelsea’s hope of securing a victory in a match where their midfielder Jorginho completed 158 passes, more than the whole of the Newcastle team combined.
Despite Jorginho possessing the ball more than the entire Newcastle, the Blues managed only three shots on target and were eventually salvaged by the own-goal which gave them the maximum three points.
In their quest to pursue a title in a league where Liverpool and Manchester City are having impressive starts, they really need to do more to be top competitors this season.
In Liverpool’s 1-0 victory over Brighton during the weekend, they had 8 shots on target with a ball possession of 70%, while City who drew Wolves 1-1 had 6 shots on target with a ball possession of 81%. This compared with Chelsea’s 80% possession of the ball with 3 shots on target is really not impressive.
