En route the knockout stage, Mexico beat Uruguay 3-1, Jamaica 2-0 and drew Venezuela 1-1 during their group fixtures, scoring a total of six goals but conceding seven goals in a single match. This made the atmosphere very unfavourable for a coach Carlos Osorio’s side that aimed at reaching at least the last four.
