The national president of the Roller Sport Federation of Nigeria Comrade Joseph Evah, has condemned the mono-sport practice which Nigeria is currently adapting, which has led to high concentration on football and negligence of other Sports in the country.
He made the call recently in Lagos, during a World Press Conference organized by the Roller Sport Federation of Nigeria at the National Stadium in Surulere Lagos, where he unveiled a 21-man team that would be jetting out of the country to represent Nigeria in a Skating African Championship in Lome.
Evah stated clearly that our practice of “Mono-Economy System”, where we rely heavily on oil for sustaining the economy has been extended to Sport, and only football is now being given adequate attention at the detriment of other Sports.
The Bayelsan-born human right activist, who did not mince words during the Press Conference clearly stated that one easy easy way to reduce crime in the country is for the government to give adequate attention to other Sports so that the youths can keep themselves busy.
He further stated that Skating has come to stay and has been recognized by the National Olympic Committee. Hence, this will give an opportunity for the athletes who are heading to Lome for the African Championship to also aim at representing the country in the Olympics which is the ultimate goal of any athlete.
The representatives of Nigeria are expected to jet out on December 6 for Lome, where they will compete with 20 other African countries in a championship that is expected to start same day and end on the 11th of December.
