Crystal Palace narrowly missed getting a late win against league leaders Manchester City, after Luka Milivojevic missed a penalty, but managed to secure a goalless draw thereby ending City’s 18 wins in a row.
The result means this is the first time Manchester City have failed to score a single goal in the premier league and in all competitions this season, they are also sharing points for the second time this season after 1-1 draw with Everton in August.
Palace may not have won the match, but they are arguably the hero this time after ensuring that Pep Guardiola does not equal his 19 consecutive wins which he achieved while in charge at Bayern Munich in 2013.
The result also means City remain 14 points ahead of second-placed Chelsea and take that lead as they enter the new year, while Chelsea will continue to contend with United to determine if they can hold on to the second position.
Though Chelsea and Manchester United trail City from a far distance, their hope of winning the title may be rekindled after Palace gave City a run for their money that almost gave them victory.
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has however reiterated that his side won’t go through the Premier League season unbeaten after their 18-game top-flight winning run was ended by a goalless draw at Crystal Palace.
The last time a team was unbeaten for the entire season was in 2003/2004 season ,when Arsenal recorded 26 wins and 12 draws to win the title finishing with 90 points.
Perhaps Arsene Wenger’s greatest fear now would be for City not to complete that feat, but Pep Guardiola has reassured him that he is not interested in pursuing that record.
