The Super Eagles of Nigeria defeated the The Mediterranean Knights of Libya in a thriller 3-2 victory that saw the Eagles move to the top of the table after grabbing six points from the two-legged encounter against the Mediterranean Knights.
Gernot Rohr’s men opened scoring through an in-form Odion Ighalo in the 14th minutes before Ahmed Musa added a second three minutes later to make the team take a 2-0 comfortable lead.
However, Libya scored their first goal through Zubya in the 35th minutes to rekindle their hope of leveling up, but the Eagles maintained their lead at half-time to keep their hopes alive.
In the second-half the Knights came all out to search for an equalizer, and their efforts paid off in the 74th minutes when Benali struck from inside the 18-yard-box to turn things around and set the pace for their first victory against the Eagles.
The Eagles who now know that an outright win was necessary against the Knights rekindled their efforts before Odion Ighalo struck in the 81st minutes to score his sixth goal in the AFCON qualifier and give the Eagles an edge over South Africa.
The victory also means the Super Eagles have put themselves in a comfortable position ahead of their last two matches against the Bafana Bafana of South Africa and the Seychelles.
The Seychelles had earlier did the Super Eagles a favour by compelling the Bafana-Bafana to a goalless draw, which makes the Eagles go top of table with nine points.
