Former Manchester United and Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper Edwin Van der Sar, has thrown his weight behind the Dutch side to emerge victorious when both teams meet in the finals of the Europa League which is expected to take place on Wednesday at Stockholm.
According to the BBC, the 46-year-old and general manager of Ajax Amsterdam football took a firm position by supporting the Dutch side ahead of the clash, adding that Ajax have had a more visible developmental programme in her academy compared to United since he left Old Trafford six years ago.
Van der Sar said “I would rather have had Manchester United in the semi-final,”
“But it didn’t happen and we have to face them in Stockholm.
“It is fantastic – but it is only fantastic if we win the cup.”
Van der Sar who won the champions league with Ajax and Manchester United in 1995 and 2008 respectively has admitted that he has put a lot into the final as Ajax’s general manager – far more than he had to do as a player 22 years ago.
