FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018 Logo Unveiled In Spain

TENERIFE, Spain (FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018) – The official logo and branding identity of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018 was unveiled on Monday in San Cristobál de la Laguna, Tenerife, the largest of Spain’s Canary Islands.

The logo draws its inspiration from the impressive natural treasures that the Canary Islands – and Tenerife in particular – have to offer, among them Mount Teide, the third highest volcanic structure and most voluminous in the world.

The Teide is a perfect metaphor for the 16 teams that will take to the court from September 22-30. Much like the volcano – which emerges from the Atlantic Ocean to stand as Spain’s highest point at its summit (12,198 feet or 3,178 metres) – all participants in the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018 will compete to rise to the top and be crowned world champions.

Spanish Basketball Federation (FEB) President Jorge Garbajosa, Canary Islands Basketball Federation President and and FEB Vice President Manuel Gomez Padilla were joined by FIBA Executive Committee Member Lena Wallin-Kantzy to reveal the logo.

Another milestone on the Road to Tenerife – Spain 2018 is set for Tuesday, when the draw ceremony will take place at the Teatro Leal, San Cristobal de la Laguna.

During the ceremony, the 16 participating teams – hosts Spain, Olympic champions USA and 14 national sides that booked their places through the FIBA Women’s Continental Cups 2017 – will be drawn into the four groups (A, B, C and D) making up the Group Phase.

The draw will be streamed live on FIBA’s YouTube channel at 11:30 (GMT).
