FIFA, CAF Pays Tribute To Keshi, Salutes Nigeria’s Fallen Football Hero.

The world governing football sent a condolence message to the President Nigeria Football Federation Amaju Pinnick,and Nigeria as a whole, the message which was written by fifa’s President Gianni Infantino read in part.

“On behalf of the international football community, please allow me to extend my deepest condolences to the football community of Nigeria and, most importantly, to Stephen’s family, friends and love ones. We hope that, in some way, our words of support may help bring a little bit of peace and solace in this time of sadness.”

Keshi is the only African coach to have qualified two African countries to the World cup, Togo (2006) and Nigeria (2014), and remains the only African coach to guide a team to the knockout stage of the fifa world cup.

The deceased remains the only African coach to have guided a team to two of the most recognized FIFA’s football tournament, FIFA Confederations cup and the FIFA World Cup.

CAF President, Issa Hayatou, has also condoled with the football community in Nigeria on the death of former national skipper and coach. His condolence is contained in a statement on the association’s website.

Hayatou expressed his “dismay” “and “immense sadness” at the sudden and premature death of the former Nigeria international, who just guided his national side to win their third African Cup of nations in 2013.
