First Jamaican Gymnat At Commonwealth Games Happy About Record

GOLD COAST – Comments from Reiss BECKFORD (JAM) following men’s artistic gymnastics podium training at Coomera Indoor Sports Centre on Tuesday (April 3).

On being the first Jamaican gymnast to compete at the Commonwealth Games:

“I am the first Jamaican, which is a fantastic achievement. Eight years ago I competed for England. It’s been a massive journey. I am super happy and super proud.”

On bonding with the Singaporean team, training in the same group:

“We’re very friendly and we want to help each other. It’s that friendly competition, which is fantastic.”

On his favourite apparatus:

“I really enjoy competing on parallel bars and horizontal bar. I think they’re the two wow factors for the crowd.”

On his medal chances:

“I’m super happy to be here. If I can make a couple of finals over the next few days, I’ll be super proud and super happy.”

On the Australian wildlife:

“I saw two kangaroos on the way here. It’s absolutely amazing.”
