France are through to the semifinal of the Euro 2016 after thrashing Iceland 5-2 at Stade De France to book a date with Germany in the semifinal of the tournament.
A brace from Olivier Giroud and one goal each from Paul Pogba, Dimitri Payet, and Anthoine Griezmann ensured the five goals came to life, while Koleinn Sigthorsson and Birkir Bjarn handed Iceland their two goals.
However, the two goals scored by Iceland were not good enough to see them through.
France will now meet Germany in a semi-final for the first time since both teams clashed in the World Cups of 1982 and 1986. That will be an occasion for another heated intensity. It is quite a long time and one can rarely remember what happened the last time Germany faced the hosts in a semi-final.
Both teams are expected to meet on July 7th, at Stade Velodrome.
