Gernot Rohr Failed To Surpass Late Stephen Keshi’s Record

Head Coach of the Super Eagles of Nigeria Gernot Rohr has failed to go beyond the group stage of the Russia 2018 World Cup following the team’s 2-1 loss to Argentina yesterday in the last group match.

The performance means the German tactician also failed to reach the knockout stage where Eagles former Coach the late Stephen Keshi guided the team to at the Brazil 2014 World Cup.

Keshi who helped the team reach the knockout stage in 2014, won one match, lost one and drew one to reach the round of 16 with the Super Eagles in 2014, but Rohr failed to reach the previous record.

Ideally, it was expected that Gernot Rohr who is perceived to be a foreign manager and knows more about football should have at least surpassed Keshi’s record, but reverse is the case here.

Under Gernot Rohr, Super Eagles won one match in Russia and lost two matches. Interestingly, a draw against Argentina would have guaranteed Eagles a round of 16 spot, but the German tactician could not live up to the stage.
