The former president of Nigeria, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has paid tribute to the late Stephen Keshi. Jonathan was the president of Nigeria when Keshi won the AFCON title as coach of the Super Eagles. He commented via tweeter.

Goodluck E. Jonathan@ GEJonathan I was Nigeria’s leader when Stephen Keshi led our team to win AFCON and I testify that we couldn’t have done it without him. Adieu Keshi.

Further more, in a tribute signed by the former president’s media adviser, Jonathan also described Keshi as a dedicated and inspirational sportsman who led his nation to win the prestigious continental football trophy at great moments, both as captain and coach.

I still keep a personal recollection of the time I received the 2013 Nation’s Cup from victorious Keshi and his team on behalf of all Nigerians. It was a moment of pride and strength for the entire country.
