Manchester City boss Pep Guadiola has revealed Yaya Toure was left out of Sunday’s match day squad to make way for rising star Aleks Zinchenko.
Toure, 34, was omitted from the squad at Huddersfield for the first time in almost three months – the last time he was dropped was in early September.
His replacement in West Yorkshire was 21-year-old Ukraine international Zinchenko.
It came just days after the veteran Ivorian made only his third start of the season in the Champions League win over Feyenoord.
Guardiola confirmed that Toure was not injured or ill – he was simply bumped out of the squad to make way for Zinchenko.
The former Barcelona manager was further quoted by Mirror Sport to say: “I decided to bring Aleks Zinchenko into the squad because he’s training amazing,” said Guardiola, who added he would have played Zinchenko against Shakhtar Donetsk next week, had he not been forced to leave him out of the squad by Uefa rules.
