Hockey: Scotland Roar In Win Over South Africa

GOLD COAST – Scotland may be ranked eight places below World No.15 South Africa, but it didn’t stop the side putting on a show in their 4-2 win at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre on Thursday 5 April.

Two goals from star forward Kenneth BAIN either side of half-time ensured Scotland ran out 4-2 winners over their more highly fancied rivals.

“We’ve (Scotland) always been the underdogs,” said BAIN.

“But since we got promoted to the top European competition, we’ve started focusing more on attacking hockey.

“We’ve got such a talented group of players and you can see that by how easy it was to score tonight.”

Scotland led 3-0 going into the first break, with goals coming from Robert HARWOOD, BAIN and Alan FORSYTH.

South Africa mounted a comeback in the second half, with goals to Gareth HEYNS and captain Tim DRUMMOND giving them some hope.

But it was BAIN’s second goal with 14 minutes left that sealed a memorable night for the Scots.
