Africa’s richest man Alikote Dangote has expressed his desire to buy Arsenal according to report from football.london.
The 60-year-old Nigerian billionaire who is also an ardent fan of Arsenal has a fortune believed to total around $12.9billion (£10bn) and is rated as Africa’s richest man according to Forbes Magazine.
Aliko Dangote has never hidden his desire to take control at the Emirates and insists he will make his move once the construction of an $11bn oil refinery in Lagos is completed.
The Mirror quoted the 60-year-old Nigerian to say “should he tempt Stan Kroenke into doing business with him, he says the first thing he would do would be to dismiss Arsene Wenger”.
The Mirror quoted Bloomberg who stated what the billionaire said as “The first thing I would change is the coach,”. “He has done a good job, but someone else should also try his luck.”
Presently, Kroenke who owns 67 per cent of Arsenal insists that he has no intention of selling the club.
Previous attempt made by Alisher Usmanov, who has a 30 per cent shares in Arsenal sometime in May failed, despite offering the Russian $1.3bn to sell his shares.
The Mirror reports that after the bid was made, “Kroenke issued a statement reiterating he plans to be a Arsenal for the long-term”.
Dangote thinks otherwise and strongly believes that he would be able to tempt both billionaires into doing business with him.
Dangote was further quoted according to source to say“If they get the right offer, I’m sure they would walk away,” he said. “Someone will give them an offer that will make them seriously consider walking away.
“And when we finish the refinery, I think we will be in a position to do that.”
