For the first time in history the German national team are out of the World Cup at the Group stage format following a 2-0 defeat from Korea Republic.
Korea Republic’s Kim Young-gwon scored a 94th minute goal which was initially disallowed as off-side but a VAR decision saw the decision overturned as the ball came off Niklas Süle.
This is the fourth time in the history of the World Cup that a defending champion would be eliminated from the Group stage in the tournament(France 2002, Italy 2010, Spain 2014).
This performance is Germany’s worst ever World Cup performance losing two group matches and managing to win one in a tournament where they were ranked second in the World before they crashed out.
Mexico who suffered a 3-0 defeat in the hands of Sweden are official beneficiaries of Germany’s exit, they must thank Korea who did them a big favour by beating the European side.
Sweden finish top of table with six points and are followed by Mexico who also have six points while Korea Republic are third and the Germany find themselves at the bottom of the table.
