Barcelona went into the game with determination to revenge, after a 3-0 win by Juventus in the first-leg of their semifinal encounter last season sent them packing from the tournament.
Lionel Messi was on top of his game in the match, scoring a brace and assisting Rakitic which made the Catalans get a 3-0 win against previous finalist Juventus at Camp Nou.
Juventus created scoring chances in the first-half through counter-attacks, but failed to make judicious use of it. Barca rose to the occasion towards the end of the first-half when Lionel Messi’s tip-tap pass gave him an opportunity to strike and put Barca in front before half time.
The Catalans dominated the second-half and two more goals came out of their efforts through Rakitic and Messi respectively, sealing up victory and giving the Catalans a vital edge in the group as they go top of the group.
Sporting Lisbon who defeated Olympiacos 3-2 are tied on points with Barcelona but goal difference keeps Barcelona on top of Group D.
