Manchester United are on the verge of reaching the Champions League knockout stages for the first time in four years after beating Benfica 2-0 at the Old Trafford stadium.
Mourinho’s men who qualified for the tournament after winning the Europa league last season must have to wait till their next match to know if they would qualify for the next stage.
United top their group with 12 points from four matches and are jointly trailed by Basel and CSKA Moscow respectively who both have six points each.
Though United won Benfica, but CSKA Moscow delayed United’s qualification to the knock-out stage after beating Basel 2-1 in their Group match to earn six points.
United would have booked a ticket to the knock-out stage if the game between CSKA Moscow and Basel had ended in a draw or if Basel had defeated CSKA Moscow.
