MIIVOC Condemns Illegal Detention of Sport Journalist At Micro-finance Banking Hall

The Executive Director of the Media Initiative Against Injustice Violence and Corruption (MIIVOC) Dr. Walter Duru has cried out condemning the actions of the management of the Microcred Micro-finance bank for the illegal detention of a Sport Journalist in their banking hall at 314 Herbert Macaulay Yaba, Lagos for four hours.

Dr. Walter who was adequately briefed on the matter spoke to www.sportintelligencemag.com from Abuja and noted that the management of the bank lacks the legal right to impose punishment on a Journalist who voluntarily walked into the bank to discuss the status of his Guarantee by detaining him in their banking hall.

In his words “The Microcred Micro-finance bank is neither a police nor a court of competent jurisdiction, so why detain the Journalist illegally with their Halogen Security, thereby using the Halogen Security to perform the function of the Nigerian Police”

“It is a criminal act, a violation of the right of the Journalist and more so as the Journalist voluntarily walked up to the bank to discuss with them before he was detained with a Halogen security in the banking hall.”

Dr. Duru added that: “The fact that the Sport Journalist had an official assignment to perform for MIIVOC which he eventually failed to perform due to his illegal detention also makes the situation worst” .

“MIIVOC are interested in getting the testimony of the Lawyer and other Journalist who came around to rescue the detained Journalist after which the case will be taken up” he added.

MIIVOC is an advocacy-based Nigerian non governmental organization working in the areas of Anti corruption/good governance, human rights, Justice sector reforms, nonviolence conflict/crises management and general advocacy.
