Mohammed Salah Becomes Joint Most Expensive African Player To Join Liverpool

Liverpool have completed the signing of Roma’s former Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah for a record fee of £34m according to reports from the bbc.

The 25-year-old Egyptian, has signed a five-year deal and has been a prime target of Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Reports further confirmed that at the current exchange rates, the fee is short of the club record £35m paid for Andy Carroll in 2011 but matches the sum they spent in 2016 to make Sadio Mane the most expensive African player. Making Salah joint most expensive African player to move to Liverpool.

The Egyptian forward almost joined Liverpool from Basle in 2014 before moving to Chelsea.

Salah who moved from Roma to Liverpool helped his side finish second in the Serie A table after scoring 15 goals in 31 league appearances.

Salah will wear jersey no 11, while Roberto Firminho will move to number 9.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has described the signing as “A perfect mix of experience and potential – this is a really exciting signing for us.

Klopp further added that: “I have followed him since he emerged at Basle and he has matured into a really good player.

“His pace is incredible, he gives us more attacking threat and we are already strong in this area. I like that we will make it even more competitive.”
