Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will not face any disciplinary action from the FA after he was sent to the stands during his side’s 1-0 win over Southampton according to reports.
The Portuguese was given a marching order during the closing stages of the 1-0 win by referee Craig Pawson after encroaching onto the pitch in the dying seconds of the game.
Mourinho was trying to make his players fall back into position to ensure that any late goal from the hosts did not come, before he was dismissed by the referee.
After his dismissal, Mourinho shook hands with Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino before leaving the technical area.
When the former Chelsea boss was asked why he had been sent off after the match, Mourinho said: “I don’t know, you have to ask the referee.”
Romelu Lukaku’s only goal secured victory for the Red Devils who now trail Manchester City on goal difference.
With Southampton pressing, Mourinho had taken off Henrikh Mkhitaryan and replaced him with Chris Smalling as United adopted a defensive approach to try and see out the game.
