Nigeria May Pair Either Argentina, Brazil,Spain, England, Sweden In World Cup Draw

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are likely to be in same Group with Argentina, England and Sweden when the World Cup draw is drawn on December 1 at Moscow’s State Kremlin Palace.

Nigeria are in Pot 4 and will be pairing with teams from Pot 1, 2 and 3 with the standard rule from FIFA stating that nations from same confederation are not to pair each other except for UEFA who have more nations.

The Super Eagles may be paired with a South American nation in Pot A with Argentina and Brazil being the only two nations in that Pot. However the long-term meetings between the two nations at the World Cup may propel another meeting. Particularly as Nigeria recently beat Argentina in their last meeting during the friendly.

Since England and Spain are also in Pot 2 and are UEFA teams, its most likely that they may be favoured to test the strength of Nigeria in the tournament after their friendly against Argentina.

In Pot 3 where we have Denmark, Iceland, Costa Rica, Sweden and three African nations, the chances of Nigeria meeting Egypt, Senegal, Tunisia is ruled out. Hence Nigeria may meet Iran, Denmark, Iceland, Costa Rica or Sweden making it become a tough one for Nigeria.
