Nigerian Soldiers Attack Parent Body Of SWAN In Umuahia, Slap Journalist, Destroy Media Gadget

The Parents body of the Sports Writers Association (SWAN), the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) received a shocking attack from Nigerian soldiers in Umuahia, the Abia State Capital, South East Nigeria at about 10:15am today September 12, 2017.

This was contained in a statement issued by Mr Boniface Okoro, the NUJ National Trustee for Zone C on the heading “Invasion of NUJ Press Centre/ Willful Destruction of My Samsung Tablet” .

Mr Okoro who is also a Correspondent with The Oracle Today Newspaper narrated in paragraphs two, three and four of the statement, on how the soldiers invaded the secretariat with two trucks fully loaded with armed soldiers.

His statement further read: “Swooping on our office, one of them (soldiers) pointed at me and ordered me to give him my phone. I told him that I had no phone with me at that material time, he slapped me and ordered me to open my bag which I was carrying. As I was bringing the contents, I brought out my SamsungTable 3, he snatched it from me and smashed it”

Mr Okoro further stated that “They equally collected another phone from Sunday Nwakanma of Daily Times and destroyed it with their gun”.
