The President of Nigeria Table Tennis Federation (NTTF) Ishaku Tikol, has assured Nigerians of better result in the forthcoming XXI Commonwealth Games tagged GoldCoast 2018, which is expected to take place in Australia.
Ishaku Tikol disclosed this to this writer recently in Lagos during a one-on-one interview.
According to Tikol, “NTTF will make an outstanding landmark achievement in Goldcoast Games and I am sure Nigeria’s result will be better than what was last achieved during the Glasgow 2014 Games which took place in Scotland.
He further stated that Segun Toriola’s participation in the forthcoming Goldcoast Commonwealth Games would be a big boost for the team as his level of competence, exposure and experience will also go a long way in making Nigeria make huge success at the Games.
Segun Toriola who last won a gold in Doubles at the Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games will be leading a team of Nigerian Table-Tennis athletes which comprises of Haruna Quadri, Bode Abiodun, Olajide Omotayo and either of Ojo Onaolapo or Azeez Jamiyu .
Tikol who also emphasized on Toriola leaving a landmark achievement in Table-Tennis, wants the veteran to become a role model to younger ones who are considering choosing a career in Table Tennis and other sports.
He also commended the efforts of the NTTF for the huge points they have gathered internationally in respect to their ranking, and noted that the Lagos Open which they have consistently hosted played a major role in enabling the federation gain recognition in the international community.
