Our Hero And Legend Is Gone!

Former Super Eagles coach and defender of the national team Stephen Okechukwu Keshi is dead.

Keshi died in the early hours of Wednesday in Benin City after he complained of leg pains and was rushed to the hospital where the doctor was attending to him before he eventually gave up.

Until his death, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi was the first indigenous coach to win the African cup of nations as a coach, the first Nigerian and second African person to win the title both as a player and as coach, and the first indigenous coach to take Nigeria to the knockout stage in the FIFA World Cup.

Stephen Keshi captained the 22-man Super Eagles squad that took Nigeria to her highest ever  FIFA ranking (5th) in 1994, and also played in Nigeria’s first ever world cup.

Upon his death, he becomes the fifth person to rest in peace with Uche Okafor, Thompson Oliha, Rashidi Yekini and Wilfred Agbonavbare, who were all part of the 22-man 1994 squad that shocked the world in 1994.

Keshi who lost his wife life last year to cancer is survived by his mother and four children.
