Paddy Power Warned Over Racist Advert For Floyd Mayweather

Paddy Power has been warned over its PR stunts after a racist campaign involving Floyd Mayweather was condemned by regulators.

Mirror Sport reports that an advert ahead of Mayweather’s fight with Conor McGregor carried the headline “Always Bet On black”.

In defense, Paddy Power claimed that the ad was not intended to cause offence on the grounds of race but the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) received series of complaints.

The ASA found it to be in breach of rules regarding harm and offence and warned Paddy Power over future use of such advert slogan

Mirror Sport further reported that the firm, whose high profile ad campaigns have often courted controversy, claimed the headline was a gambling related “pun” as the fight was taking place in Las Vegas and “betting on black” was a roulette reference.
