There was much furor in critics and the media when Barcelona signed Paulinho from China, but little did all know that a time will come when the Brazilian would become the saviour of the club while in a difficult situation.
Barcelona traveled to Getafe during the weekend with lots of hopes, and goal-scoring burden heavily heaped on Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez as the case may be, but it was a different thing at the end of the first half.
Getafe had taken the lead by one goal before half time, the lead soaked so much pressure on Barcelona. Worse still, the host were making frantic efforts to score more, but their efforts did not yield a second goal.
Second half substitutes Denis Suarez opened scoring for Barcelona to level up in the 62′ minutes, before Paulinho’s late goal in the 84′ minutes sealed victory for the Catalans giving them 100 per cent control of their lead in the league.
Paulinho may not have been looked up to as the most likely person to salvage the squad in their situation, may be Messi or Suarez, but it was the Brazilian who did the magic.
The win would surely inflict lots of pains on Getafe whose effort to secure a win did not materials, as they were left groaning after the centre referee blasted the final whistle.
