The Secretary-General of the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Mr. Tunde Popoola, has assured Nigerians that team Nigeria will come out with an impressive performance when they flag the country’s colour at Australia in the forthcoming 21st edition of the Commonwealth Games tagged Goldcoast 2018.
Popoola, who spoke during an interactive session which comprised of presidents of Sports federation and board of trustees members of NOC at the 2017 Annual General Meeting of the NOC which recently took place at the Ikeja Airport Hotel in Lagos, gave the assurance.
Popoola who has a knack for quality Sport programmes also saluted members of the various Sports federations for coming together as one big family to work as a team, rather than concentrate on their federations alone as it used to be in the past.
In his words “for the first time in many years,every participants were not interested alone in their federation but rather uniting together as one sports family to achieve growth and development of sports in Nigeria”.
On issue of finance, he also stated that though finance has been a scourge facing Sport in Nigeria, but the Olympic body has become strategic in preparation since the beginning of the year both in administration and the technical aspect, so as to become better at the moment and in the future.
The Goldcoast 2018 Commonwealth Games is expected to hold from April 4th to 11th in Australia, and Nigeria is expected to participate in six sports namely Table Tennis, Wrestling, Athletics, Weight-lifting, Power lifting and Boxing.
