Nigeria’s Quadri Aruna had a thrilling encounter with Portuguese Freitus Marcos in the round of 16 clash of the ongoing Seamaster 2018 ITTF World Tour Hong Kong Open, losing by 4-2.
Quadri leveled up after Marcos took the lead in the second game but the Portuguese won the next two games to take a 3-1 lead, before Quadri put him under pressure with a 12-10 victory which made the scoreline 3-2.
However, Marcos regained confidence in the sixth game to end Quadri’s hope of leveling up for a second time, winning by 11-6 in the final game.
Quadri who is ranked 22nd in the world needed victory against Marcos who is ranked 15th in the world, but the victory did not come giving the Portuguese an opportunity to progress to the next stage.
The Portuguese will now face Korea’s Lim Jonghoon in the match 3 of the men’s quarter-final while Quadri is out of the championship.
