Remembering How Segun Odegbami Turned A Police Officer Into An Olympic Gold Medalist

It was exactly twenty years ago, when Nigeria won her first Olympic Gold medal at the Atlanta 1996 in the United States of America. Special thanks however go to former Green Eagles forward Engr. Segun Odegbami, who played a significant role in ensuring that the talent discovered in Ajunwa then was properly attended to.

Ajunwa in her chat with Sports Intelligence confirmed that Segun Odegbami and Remi Olowode were God sent, as they ensured that all her training programmes within and outside the country were attended to. The result of that effort which the former international footballer made, that eventually led to the golden performance is what is still lingering, twenty years after.

Rio 2016 Olympics is set, one can still wonder if any surprise of that kind is likely to spring-up. Experts have predicted that there is no hope for Nigeria at the Rio Olympics, but how true this assertion may be, will be determined by the result of Team Nigeria at the summer Olympics in two months time.
