Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has once again proved that he is not worth the staggering sum of £75m which Jose Mourinho bought the forward from Everton, after he failed to see the back of the net in the Manchester Derby.
Aside being able to secure a goal, the Belgian was at no point a threat in the match, he was present but conspicuously missing at the right positions. If Rashford was not positioned to score United’s only goal when Delph missed calculation, maybe United would not have scored a goal.
He played an important role in the two goals that City scored and failed to convert an open net situation when he had the chance to give United a draw, placing the ball directly into the safe hands of City’s goalkeeper.
Statistically speaking, Lukaku has become a shadow of himself whenever United play against the top six, he has only scored five goals for United in 40 games against the top six teams in the premier league and has failed to improve on his performances.
In the match between Chelsea and United where the blues won by 1-0, Lukaku was physically present but unable to make his presence felt, he was seen running helter-skelter without making a positive impact on his team.
No doubt, the Belgian extended his poor performances against the top six in the Manchester derby, making inaccurate passes and giving out the ball so easily to his opponents. He is yet to justify his £75m record signing against the big teams in England.
