Tanzanian “ardent-Manchester-United-fans” are yet to believe that Wayne Rooney has left the Red Devils to join Everton, as this was what played out in Everton’s pre-season tour to Africa when they played Kenya’s Gor Mahia at the National Stadium in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
Rooney opened scoring for Everton in 35 minutes of play after firing a 25-yard long range shot to get the first goal of the match, but it was shocking that a Tanzanian fan wearing Manchester United jersey ran into the pitch to hug the England international.
The 31-year-old former Manchester United forward gave a positive response to the hug, but security operatives were quick to bundle the passionate fan who probably found it difficult to understand that Rooney is no more with Manchester United.
The BBC report that even Tanzania’s Vice-President Samia Suluhu Hassan attested to this fact as he was quoted to say: “Wayne Rooney made me support Manchester United and now I don’t know what to do because he has gone back to Everton,” she said.
Rooney replied: “Being here, it has been a new experience for me and I hope the vice-president will now be able to support Everton.”
The match was sponsored by Kenyan betting firm SporPesa who are now Everton’s new shirt Sponsor since May, they also sponsor Kenya’s and Tanzania’s top-flight leagues.
