Russia 2018: Europe’s Historical Semifinal Clash

For the fifth time in the history of the World Cup since its inception in 1930, it is going to be an all European semifinal encounter a historical feat which has made Europe dominate the game.

The first time it was an all European affair was in 1934 with Italy, Czechoslovakia, Germany and Austria all reaching the semifinal stage, then in 1966 England, West Germany, Portugal and Soviet Union.

The third time Europe accomplished such feats was in 1982 with Italy, West Germany, Poland and France all reaching the semifinal while the fourth was in 2006 when Italy, France, Germany and Portugal made it.

Russia 2018 was the fifth time such feat would be accomplished by Europe and France also becomes the only nation to have reached the semifinal on three occasions as Europe makes history.

France who are making their third appearance in this remarkable European feat will be hoping to win their second title when they face Belgium in the semifinal while the Belgians who are yet to reach the final will work hard to beat France, having sent tournament’s favourite Brazil out in the quarterfinal stage.

In the second Semifinal match, England will be seeking to reach their second final when they face Croatia, while the Croats who have reached their first ever semifinal after edging out host Russia in the quarterfinal will be looking forward to reach their first ever final and probably win the cup.
