GOLD COAST 2018: Nigeria’s national flag was conspicuously missing in the men’s table tennis final match between Nigeria and India which took place at the Oxenford Studios in which the Asian side won 3-0 to grab the gold medal.
It was however shameful that during the final encounter, the commentator had called for both the India and Nigeria’s national flag to be flown high, but it was only India’s flag that was seen flying around in numbers with no sign of the green-white-green anywhere around.
Unfortunately Nigeria’s Sport Minister Solomon Dalung who led his entourage to the venue of the final was shamefully glued to his seat watching as the call was been made, with no sign of any one of his entourage having any Nigerian flag around.
More so Solomon Dalung who led his entourage to the Oxenford Studios had earlier attended a welcome party organized by the Nigeria’s community in Australia, but also failed to mobilize Nigerians living in Australia to come out en masse and support the team appropriately.
Even if Nigerian’s living in Australia were not able to come around with the Nigerian national flag, it was expected that the Sport Minister and his team who had a huge budget for the trip should have ensured that such lapses were not noticed.
This action was a clear revelation of one of the numerous lapses of the Sport Minister who has again shown he lacks the basic know-how to be seated as the country’s Sport minister.
