South Africa’s quest to qualify for the Russia 2018 Fifa World Cup has been described as a “Do-or-die” affair, this was the position of the Sport Minister and Recreation of South Africa Mr. Thulas Nxesi.
Mr Nxesi who spoke on Super Sport ahead of the Bafana Bafana clash with Cape Verde which comes up on Friday September 1, believes that the government of South Africa has motivated the team enough and hence, the team have to reciprocate by booking the sole ticket in Group E to Russia.
Bafana Bafana are second on the table, but tied on points with Burkina Faso. Though both teams have four points each but Burkina Faso stay on top having advantage due to goal difference.
The South Africa team will be hoping to beat underdogs Cape Verde when they meet tomorrow, but will be looking up to the support from Senegal who may do them a favour by either beating or playing a draw against Burkina babes.
The chances of any team qualifying is very open in the Group, but Mr. Nxesi believes that South Africa who last played in the World Cup as host in 2010 deserves a spot in Russia 2018.
