Team Nigeria Table-tennis male team started off with an impressive performance against Malaysia with a 3-1 victory at the ongoing Gold Coast Commonwealth Games following laudable performances from Omotayo Olajide, Abiodun Bode and Jamiu Azeez.
In the men singles Omotayo Olajide defeated Leong Chee Feng three times with results coming as 13-11, 15-13 and 11-7, while Abiodun Bode who followed same path converted several smashing to roll back smash thereby defeating Muhamad Rizal of Malaysia 11-5, 11-7 and 13-11.
However, in the men’s double Malaysia put up a super performance turning the table around with 3 victories in a combination that had Choong Javen and Leon Chee Feng defeating Nigeria’s Jamiu Azeez and Omotayo Olajide 11-4, 11-9 and 11-7 which brought hope to the Malaysian side.
But their balloon of hope got burst in another men’s singles when Jamiu Azeez defeated Muhamad Azeez in a ding-dong affair that produced 3 wins out of five with 11-7, 11-5 and 11-8, while Muhamad Rizal got two victories with results as 11-9 and 11-7.
The result means Nigeria started off their campaign with a 3-1 victory over Malaysia in the male category ahead of their next match.
