Tunisia secured a 2-1 victory against stubborn D.R Congo to move to the top of Group A, giving them the maximum three points needed to keep their hopes of going to Russia alive.
Meriah opened scoring for the North Africans in the 18th minutes, but Bakambu’s 43 minutes strike cancelled the lead, putting the game to draw before half-time.
But upon resumption in the second-half, Chalali’s early goal in the first two minutes was their second and final goal of the match, taking the North Africans to the top of the table with nine points.
In Group C Morocco mauled 9-man Mali by 6-0 to move to the top of the Group with five points, the goal margin scored will become useful when there is a tie.
Though the North African team are currently on top ahead of their fourth match, but they will have to wait to see the result from the Ivory Coast and Gabon match to know if they will hold on to the top position.
Morocco will also be praying that Gabon will do them a favour by causing an upset as that will probably give them an opportunity to remain on top with goal difference.
