Two Legends Who Never Won The World Cup

The Russia 2018 World Cup is gradually coming to an end with France, Belgium, England and Croatia all set to face each other in the semifinal. However, the four teams will be set to parade players who may not have achieved as much as Messi and Ronaldo in the game of football.

While the tournament is coming to an end, it may also just be the end of a dream which the duo Messi and Ronaldo had once hoped that one day they will lifet the FIFA World Cup for their various nations.

The duo share one thing in common, they never lifted the World Cup for their nation but will at every point in history be remembered as one of the numerous legends that ever existed as far as the game of football is concerned in the World.

Messi got close to the World Cup trophy in 2014, but never lifted the prestigious cup

Ronaldo best at the World Cup was finishing fourth place with Portugal in 2006

Ronaldo was able to deliver the European Championship for his country, while Messi’s only accolade for his nation was winning the Olympic football gold for men in the 2008 edition.

For Ronaldo, he never got closer to the World Cup recording the quarterfinal as , while Messi who had a period of 90 minutes to clinch the title in 2014 saw the precious accolade taken away from him by a German side that failed to go beyond the group stage four years after winning the title.

Messi may feel the pains more, having also seen three finals with his national sides at the Copa America without lifting a single one.

However, in football generally Messi and Ronaldo had broken records and replaced them with new ones both at club level and at national level, but the record of winning the World Cup is one achievement which they both failed to accomplish.

In Russia 2018, Messi became 31 while Ronaldo 33, but after their sides were sent packing from the tournament on same day none of them is yet to make a pronouncement as to whether they had retired from international duties or not.

Their keeping quiet remains golden, no one can tell if they will be coming back in 2022 when the two living legends will become 35 and 37 respectively, but at times in life it is not everything you wish to accomplish that you eventually get.

Messi and Ronaldo may not win the most prestigious and recognized trophy available in World football, but they still remain one of the greatest legends of the game.
