A late goal scored in the 89th minutes from Jose Gimenez was all that changed the scoreline and shattered the birthday joys of Africa’s best footballer Mohammed Salah.
Salah who clocked 26th on June 15, was left on the Egyptian bench in their World Cup opener against Uruguay to recuperate from injury sustained from the final of the uefa champions league.
His teammates who did all they can to keep the match at draw where unable to withstand the pressure from the South Americans, before Gimenez nodded in late from Sanchez pullout.
It was Egypt’s first match at the Russia 2018 World Cup and it was ordinarily expected that since it coincided with Salah’s birthday, the best gift he should have gotten was at least a draw, but a late goal spoilt the whole show.
The result gotten from the match now means Salah will have to come all out and help his side win their next two matches to ensure they scale through to the round of 16.
The Pharaoh’s of Egypt will now face host Russia on Tuesday in their next match where they certainly must be willing to look up to victory irrespective of their playing against the huge fans of Russia who will be against them.
